As Erin and Reede become better friends, they hang out more often. Erin, Reede, Mark, and a few other friends are on the club that designs the school website. Erin really loves creating websites and blogs. This is also one of her strengths.
Do you have a strength? Something that your really good at? Most people do, there strengths are usually things that they enjoy doing and do ALOT. As people say, "Practice makes perfect." So if you enjoy doing things and you do them a lot, you will become better at them and soon they will be one of your strengths.
One of my strengths is lacrosse. I started when I was in 5th grade and have played every year since. As the years have progressed and the game has gotten harder, I have gotten better. I now love lacrosse and wouldn't know what I would do without it.

Hannah,
ReplyDeleteAwesome connection to your own life (talking about your strengths after thinking about the character's). Did you even know that you did that??
I agree with you that most people's strengths are things they do a lot. I think that it's kind of like the debate over which came first-- the chicken or the egg.
So, which do you think comes first--
That people are good at something already and they do it because they enjoy being good at it...or do they like it but are bad at it so the more they do it, the better they get?
I think people are good at it, but then become better! I think most people like to do things they are good at, there are a few exceptions but most like to show their talent. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteHannah,
ReplyDeleteHoly soap opera in a book. Erin thought she liked Mark but now she likes Blake and she met a new friend named Reeve and liked hanging out with her until she offered her a cigarette and now Jilly doesn't want to Erin to hang out with Blake but Erin still wants to help Reeve to stop smoking. Wow, that is a mouthfull. I believe that was a run on sentence there but there is just so much Drama in this book.
I don't think that I would enjoy this book very much but I can see why middle school girls would.
Also, we need to have an after school toss before the season begins for all of you. Maybe we can use a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon and get some middle school lacrosse players to have a catch. I have to admit that coaching girls varsity lacrosse over in Laconia was one of my most favorite and rewarding experiences in coaching. I never knew how hard it was to pass and catch with a girls stick until I tried it. Its much different than a boys lacrosse stick. Anyways keep on playing and reading!
Mr. Hersey
Mr. Hersey--
ReplyDeleteI never knew there was a difference between a girls and guys lacrosse stick! Very interesting...I also agree with you that middle school girls in general would probably love the book that Hannah just finished reading.
Hannah--
I think I agree with you that people do things they are good at because....to be honest...how fun is it to do things you aren't good at??!! Personally, I hate golfing and video games in particular because I am terrible at both!
I also agree with you that you get better at the things you already are good at BECAUSE you do them so much and you are interested in being better at them. Plus, with things like lacrosse or other sports, if you don't get better as you get older...sometimes you won't be able to keep playing because teams start making cuts. All the more reason to improve!
